Dogfishhead Dinner August 14th at Zona River

July 26th, 2012

We have been huge supporters of this Delaware based brewery since we have opened at Zona 78 River almost 10 years ago. They are now the fastest growing brewery in the United States and their craft brews are some of the hardest to find. We have put together a lineup of some hard to get special brews. Beer enthusiasts and newcomers will both love.

1st Beer: Ta Henket

Ta Henket is brewed with an ancient form of wheat and loaves of hearth-baked bread, and it’s flavored with chamomile, doum-palm fruit and Middle Eastern herbs. To ferment this earthy ancient ale, Sam and friends traveled to Cairo, set out baited petri dishes and captured a native Egyptian saccharomyces yeast strain.

2nd Beer: My Antonia

My Antonia started out as a collaboration beer when Sam brewed it at Birra del Borgo (hope you can read Italian) outside Rome, Italy, with owner/brewer Leonardo DiVencenzo in October 2008. In 2010, we began brewing My Antonia here in Delaware for U.S. distribution.

3rd Beer: Sah Tea

The wort for Sah’tea is caramelized over white-hot river rocks, and the beer is fermented with a German weizen yeast. In addition to juniper berries foraged from the Finnish countryside, Sah’tea is flavored with black tea, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and black pepper. The spicing is subtle and balanced, and Sah’tea is a highly-quaffable, truly unique brew with a full mouthfeel.

4th Beer: Theobroma on Tap, that’s right on tap!

This Ancient Ale is based on chemical analysis of pottery fragments found in Honduras that revealed the earliest known alcoholic chocolate drink used by early civilizations to toast special occasions.

The discovery of this beverage pushed back the earliest use of cocoa for human consumption more than 500 years to 1,200 B.C. As per the analysis, Dogfish Head’s Theobroma (translated into “food of the gods”) is brewed with Aztec cocoa powder and cocoa nibs (from our friends at Askinosie Chocolate), honey, chilies and annatto (fragrant tree seeds).

$40 a person includes 4 food pairings. Reservations are required (520)888-7878. Dinner starts at 6:00pm.
